# Quickstart

> Create a key and generate your first image

You need an Orvado account with a positive balance. Your manager sends you the sign-in details.

**1. Create an API key**

Sign in at [orvado.dev](https://orvado.dev/login). Open **Tokens** and create a key. It starts with `td-`.

Store it as an environment variable, not in your code:

```bash theme={null}
export ORVADO_KEY="td-..."
```

**2. Generate an image**

```bash curl theme={null}
curl https://orvado.dev/v1/images/generations \
  --max-time 600 \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $ORVADO_KEY" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{
    "model": "nano-banana-pro",
    "prompt": "amethyst perfume bottle on plum velvet, studio light",
    "size": "1024x1024"
  }'
```

```python Python theme={null}
import os
from openai import OpenAI
client = OpenAI(
    api_key=os.environ["ORVADO_KEY"],
    base_url="https://orvado.dev/v1",
    timeout=600,
)
result = client.images.generate(
    model="nano-banana-pro",
    prompt="amethyst perfume bottle on plum velvet, studio light",
    size="1024x1024",
)
image = result.data[0]
print(image.url or "base64 image received")
```

```javascript Node.js theme={null}
import OpenAI from "openai";
const client = new OpenAI({
  apiKey: process.env.ORVADO_KEY,
  baseURL: "https://orvado.dev/v1",
  timeout: 600_000,
});
const result = await client.images.generate({
  model: "nano-banana-pro",
  prompt: "amethyst perfume bottle on plum velvet, studio light",
  size: "1024x1024",
});
const image = result.data[0];
console.log(image.url ?? "base64 image received");
```

The call waits until the image is ready: usually 10 to 60 seconds for Nano Banana and about 30 to 70 seconds for GPT Image 2.5.

**3. Save the image**

The response looks like this:

```json theme={null}
{
  "created": 1792500000,
  "data": [
    { "url": "https://..." }
  ]
}
```

Download the file right away and keep it in your own storage. Send `"response_format": "b64_json"` to get the image inline instead of a link.

**4. Check what it cost**

Every response carries an `X-Oneapi-Request-Id` header. Look up the charge:

```bash theme={null}
curl https://orvado.dev/api/cost/request/REQUEST_ID
```

A 1K Nano Banana Pro image costs \$0.05. See [Errors and billing](/errors-and-billing).
